Reserves Match Report v Ironmen

Eleven tries, including three from Matty Welham, saw Hull FC Reserves comprehensively defeat South Wales Ironmen 58-6.

The Hull centre had two in the first half before completing his hat-trick in the second in a clinical display from Richard Horne’s side.

Cameron Scott, Marvin Lee and Mike Adlard all registered braces, with Jack Downs and Jack Wray also getting their name on the scoresheet.

The Reserves’ win rounded off the fan day at Brantingham Park for Hull&Proud Week, with Feka Palea’aesina’s testimonial All-Stars taking on a Hull FC Legends team beforehand.

Welham had his first when he was sent over by Josh Wood and Scott touched down shortly after to make it 12-0.

Lee followed Scott by scoring the first of his double, and the half-back played a part in Downs’ four-pointer as the Black and Whites continued to dominate proceedings in the first half.

The Airlie Birds’ attack was making inroads in the South Wales defence and that showed again when Adlard went in for a quick double to increase the advantage even further.

Welham added his second and Hull’s seventh try of the first half with a few minutes remaining in the first 40, with the hosts taking a 40-0 lead into the interval with them.

The winger completed his hat-trick in the early stages of the second half, which followed with Lee doubling his try-scoring tally for the afternoon off the back of a break.

Hull were in complete control having amassed over half a century of points but the Ironmen avoided the whitewash when they crossed for the first of the game.

However, Scott sealed his brace before Wray, who converted seven of Hull’s 11 tries, earned himself a try in the final few minutes of the game. But the half-back was unable to convert his own score.

Hull FC Reserves: Adlard; Sanderson, Bower, Scott, Welham; Lee, Wray; Osborne, Wood, Matongo, Westerman, Bastiman, Downs. Subs: Cook, Gilbey, Silk, Marquez-Laynez
