Theatre company Ensemble 52 presented the first of 2 Christmas Cabaret’s last night as part of their Christmas Heads Up Festival, at Hull’s hottest new culture spot Kardomah 94.
Backed by an excellent band, plus a choir from Sirius Academy, entertainers Ian Thompson, Sarah Naughton and Kardomah 94s very own singing chef Amy Dickinson entertained a sell out audience with a variety of different music from West End classics through to Disney films and with a generous mix of Christmas chart songs.
Highlights included a James Bond medley from the 3 main singers, a never to be seen again version of the classic Fairytale of New York, originally by The Pogues and Kirsty McColl, saw Ian Thompson and Sarah Naughton have everybody in hysterics and Amy Dickinson blew the audience away with renditions of One Night Only and All I Want for Christmas is You.
With the night hosted by Ensemble 52 Artistic Director Andrew Pearson, who also joined in with singing some cabaret classics, the company and the venue management provided the perfect start to the Christmas holidays.
The audience were encouraged to dance in the 2nd half and this they did with great enthusiasm.
With the technical support of Matt Lund and a wonderfully intimate venue Ensemble 52 had the perfect setting for just such a show and it is noted with great interest that this will all be happening again at 8:00 tomorrow evening, one can only wonder what treats await then.
